4 Out-Of-The-Box Stenciled Table Top Ideas

Whether your table is old or new, big or small, a little paint and stenciling can make it the piece that you've been hunting for, but never quite found. The best part is that a stencil table top is budget friendly! That thrift store find that you've had stored away or that inexpensive Ikea-like furniture that you just bought is the ideal candidate! Here are 4 ideas for transforming any tabletop into something beautiful and unique with the easy application of furniture stencils from Royal Design Studio.
Finnegan Road wanted to update her thrift store furniture fix-ups without painting over the wood. She found a solution that still brings pattern and personality to her furniture makeovers: stenciling with stain instead of paint. She stenciled a wooden-topped coffee table with our Rockin' Roses Damask Stencil using a darker colored stain to highlight the pattern while still maintaining the beautfy of the wood. How cool is that? Stencils can be used in SO many ways! If you want to get the look of this pretty floral table top, you can use Faux Effects Stain & Seal in Ebony with any of our Allover Floral Stencils.
Have you ever thought of cutting a table in HALF?? Thrift Diving was giving her laundry room a makeover when she did the unthinkable! She showed no mercy to a $30 thrift store dining table and split it in two. This is such a creative DIY idea for creating a long folding table! She then painted the top with Paris Grey Chalk Paint(R), the legs with Pure White Chalk Paint(R), and added the finishing touch with our French Floral Damask Stencil.
Brocante in the Barossa knew that her table was missing something and she turned to stencils for help. After browsing our Lace Stencils and Stencil Supplies, she had the greatest idea! She used Country Grey Chalk Paint(R) by Annie Sloan as a base coat for this sturdy little table top. For a touch of feminine flair, she stenciled the table top with our Small Spanish Lace Stencil using an ombre painttechnique that features multiple colors blending throughout the scalloped lace design. Our Royal Stencil Crme Paints in Pearl Oyster, Bright Gold, Lime Shine, and Bronze Age added subtle shimmer that stands out from the flat Chalk Paint(R) basecoat. Her stenciled table top turned out so beautifully! Doesn't it remind you of a sunset?
If you want a fresh, modern look for your room, consider acrylic furniture! Home-ology Modern Vintage shared with Wayfair readers how she incorporated these unique table tops into a contemporary interior. She used gold metallic paint with our Cheetah Spots Stencil and African Plumes Furniture Stencil on acrylic nesting tables to add some personality without taking up a lot visual space in her home. We love how she brought in multiple patterns to the room while still maintaining a light and airy feel! This idea would work with any or our Modern Stencils to create an unexpected surprise of modern glam!

Important tip! Never clean acrylic furniture with chemical cleaners and don't use spray adhesive to apply your stencils since these products contain acetone which will discolor the acrylic finish of these tables.

I have a small all wood kitchen table with water stains all over it. Either how can I get the water stains out or are there an array of stencils to choose from somewhere and is it an intensive job. Because I am pretty crippled up physically and live alone. Thanks inadvance for all your suggestions

Veeerry nice! Have never used stencils but really like what can be done with them. You mentioned not to use spray adhesive on acrylic. How do you keep the paint from getting underneath??

@Marion Nesbitt Hi Marion! As long as you paint within the stencil lines with a light layer of paint (emphasis on light!), as with any stencil project, then the lines will come out clean! :)

I really like the idea of splitting a large old dining table in half, as in the laundry room idea, but I'd want to use that gorgeous lace stencil idea (the ombre paint one). I'd be using the finished table as my computer desk as well as my drawing table. Such creative people--just love it!
