I just tried a great solution: hot vinegar and Dawn; spray on, let sit for 15-20 minutes, the scum pretty much wipes right off.

@Nature's Cradle-WA StateI'm sorry to tell you this, but I had not scrubbed out my shower for YEARS (rather be sewing or reading), but when I tried this out a few weeks ago, it was like magic!! I used a sponge with a scratch pad on one side, and old rags. I had to change out the rags frequently because the scum built up on them. I had to do a few places over but it made the chrome look like new, and I do not remember my shower looking so good since it was installed in 2003! Here's the recipe:8 oz. (1 cup) of warm vinegar8 oz. ( 1 cup) of Dawn That's it! I put the vinegar in the microwave for about two minutes to get it warm. Then mix the vinegar and the Dawn in a spray bottle. One cup of Dawn seems like a lot to me, but I guess you need that much to cut through the scum. It makes sense. If it can cut through grease and baked on food, it should be able to cut through yucky shower scum!

Get real brave. I use OVEN CLEANER for most everything, including the shower doors. Make sure you keep it off the frame. Spray then scrub in small areas. This prevents damage. The doors will be sparkling in nothing flat. Easy!
