I have a red adirondack chair outside I'd like to use for Christmas, any suggestions for decorating it?

It sits to the side of our driveway, our house is white with dark green trim.

  • Perhaps a photo so people can get an idea of its location and what it looks like exactly. This will bring out a lot of creative ideas for you. Just be careful of what your asking for, you will find yourself quite busy with all the great ideas that will follow.

Go to your local thrift store and find a lantern to put on one arm. On the other I would put a holiday tartan blanket (I found a long tartan wool skirt from the thrift store and cut it so it was a big piece of fabric and bunched it so it looked like a blanket. Find a smaller wreath and hang it on the back. It will look totally adorable especially since it is red. Good luck!

I can turn it either way but like it best facing the driveway. Thanks Tracy, I like your idea and I actually have a lantern so it would be just the tartan. Other ideas are still welcome too since I won't be decorating until this weekend :)

Love the chair! I like the position of the second picture. Perhaps you could put a pot of evergreens on the seat with some Christmas decorations added (bulbs, ribbons etc.) and I love the idea of incorporating a lantern on one of the arms. Good luck! Thanks for posing the question and please post a final pic of your project :)

Ask your local hardware or appliance stores for pieces of foam packing material (they usually discard) and then using a serrated knife, cut different size squares. Paint them different colors and put ribbon on them to make packages....add glitz and glitter galore! Stack them in the seat of the chair and then add some greenery, red berries, or accent pieces and showcase with a spot light.

I like Tracy's idea and actually found a tartan skirt at the Salvation Army today and a wreath for 99 cents...........going to try it. I also like Jeanette's idea....so thanks to all who answered. I'm not a very crafty person and love this website for ideas.

I'd stage it as Santa's seat for kids & add a "Santa's on break" sign painted & propped up against it. Maybe put his hat on the seat or a pair of boots off to the side...

I took Tracy's idea and since it's not a traditional adirondack chair I put the lantern on the chair, then put a low spotlight on it. I'll post a picture tomorrow. Thanks....I've gotten some nice compliments on it :)

Okay here are the pictures.....it's been raining alot lately so my "blanket" looks a little frazzled. It still looks pretty nice.....a daytime and a night time photo attached. Thanks for all the help and Merry Christmas :)
