Solar Tube For The Upstairs Bathroom

Our upstairs bathroom doesn't have a window and we've always wished there was some natural light in that room. My husband decided to add a solar tube skylight. Read more about how he installed it here: http://diydesignfanatic.blogspot.com/2012/11/solar-tube-for-upstairs-bath.html
The solar tube skylight adds a lot of light to our windowless bathroom.
We chose a solar tube fro Velux.
Here's how dark the room is with the solar tube covered.

Solatubes are not supposed to increase heat in the room with the "light" but my roofer says they will make a room hotter. I'm not sure if he thought I was talking about a regular skylight but I want a true Solatube as long as it won't increase room temperatures on a hot So California day. Let me know...

ahhh the memories....remodeled a bath in my 1st 50's build, took out a rotting window, put in a tub/shower combo and had installed a piece of "new technology" the solar tube. with in a week of completion, a good friend asked if she could crash at my place- there was a conference she needed for continuing education credits. I heard frantic slapping on the wall, then a "hey how do i turn this light off? there were 3 switches- 1 for closet next door, 1 for vanity lights, 1 for hall lights. as i go down the hall...all were off. i asked which one she was trying to turn off.....she points to the ceiling..i had to tell her that if that ones goes dark at this time of day we' better run for the basement...yup the tube light doesn't have a switch. :)
