A Vintage Ironing Board Turned Welcome Sign

I picked up this old ironing board and just knew it could be something wonderful! After tossing around several different ideas, I settled on one.. turning it into a welcome sign for our front porch.

  • The kitchen backs onto park property so privacy isn't an issue. And I prefer the sun to stream right on it anyway. 4
  • The shades were lined with another fabric (via hot glue) so they weren't too transparent. Gotta appreciate those ready made graphics. :)
  • Junky trinkets were added as faux pulls just for fun.
  • Love how the shades add some warmth without taking over the sunlight nor view. Let's face it... long curtains would get splashed on here anyway.
  • Here's a shot of how the fabric was glued together, then glued to the rod. These are 'dummy' panels so they didn't have to actually work.

Make your own coffee sack shades - fast and easy!

I'm one that prefers untraditional window treatments, hence, the coffee sack shades were born!

I simply cut a closet dowel to size, installed it inside the window frame, hot glued the ...»

sack onto the rod and called it done. Very quirky, rustic and so easy to do.

It is beautiful. I would be interested in the names of the plants used.

Painting: We bought a home that has painted over wallpaper in virtually every room.

Most of it is the bottom third of the wall and it has no texture underneath. The top of each wall is just paint and texture. Do I have to strip it all and then texture or can I texture over it?

I should mention that the floors of the loft are designed to lift out in sections to sweep out ...»
the waste to a door on the outer wall of the loft. I thought about trays to pull out however with the size they would need to be they would be too heavy. Still looking for something that may work though.
