George, Your vents should never ben open. Sealing the crawl space is what you need to do. ...»
Check the department of energy's site at www.crawlspaces.org for more information. They actually did a study of crawlspaces in NC that your might find relevant. Sealing, putting down a heavy vapor barrier and if it's damp you may need to consider dehumidification.

guy replaced my wooden door (CHEAP from a TERRIBLE Builder, reolaced a metal one, with a cheap hand-made wooden one that was clunky.) SO Question is.... I have a SOLID cover for a door and a vented one. I used to change the door cover out in the summer to the vented one, but realized the metal one I had was solid, SO does it MATTER if the Door cover is solid or vented being I have vents all around the crawl space? I opened it today to read the sub-meter (sprinkler system) and it was nice and cool under the house! Had spiders and they gross me out, but......

Venting can actually encourage an unhealthy crawlspace. Check the Dept. of Energy's site http://crawlspaces.org/ for more information.

of the wall or through the wall you may want to address it with an interior system. If it's coming from the top of the wall and running down, you may want to check your landscaping outside.

Dark Basement Becomes A Cozy Family Room

Our basement was dark and bland, and the layout was strange with no where to put the sofa, without closing the room in. It was not fun to play in for our daughter, and it was a hard room ...»
to hang out in with friends. We repainted the room a dusky purple, got a new sofa, and completely got rid of our bookshelves and almost all of our books (we went digital)! A new rug and accessories helped to update the space. A new tv mounted above the fireplace cut down on furniture, leaving more floor space, and I made a coffee table out of repurposed pallets!

Useful space I created under my basement stairs

I utilized almost every inch of usable space under these stairs. 30" deep drawers under the lower section and a small mini bar in the higher back part. and also a deep storage area beyond the countertop.

  • The color used in this project was "Cola". Primarily brown with some red highlights.

Painting: Our team just completed laying stain for a basement in Milton. Its a "Green" project.

We ground the floor to a swirl free finish, detail cleaned the surface and then applied the stain with a proprietatry spray system. It dispenses the pigments at a very fine rate and provides an unparallelled floor result. Tomorrow we apply a specialized epoxy sealer. This floor will dazzle!
