Birmingham DIY Flooring Makeover

South Cypress
by South Cypress
When Wes and Erica moved into their new Birmingham, Alabama home, they knew almost immediately that they wanted to do some serious updating to the space. One of the areas they knew they needed to overhaul was the flooring.

When Wes moved in, the home featured a beige carpet that simply had to go. Instead of replacing the carpet with a new one, Wes decided that he wanted to invest in a new hardwood flooring to really upgrade the look of their home.
After consulting with South Cypress, Wes decided on Storka Wentworth oil-rubbed French Oak hardwood. Before the installation, Wes had to use some self-leveling product on certain concavities in the subfloor to ensure there were no 'spongy' areas in the floor. When the product arrived, Wes immediately unpacked and randomized each box to ensure variation of each lot throughout the house. Wes says that it took him about 10 working days from the beginning of carpet removal to the last of the ~744 square feet of hardwood being installed.
Wes loves the charm and character that comes with the distressed and reclaimed look of this dark Oak hardwood. The wood is absolutely beautiful!
The finished master bedroom looks phenomenal! The dark hardwood gives an excellent contrast to the white in the bedroom!
The great thing about this flooring is that each plank is completely unique! Wes specifically selected his favorite boards to go in focal points throughout the house.
The finished dining room! Wes says that they chose this color because they love having warm and rustic tones throughout the home. This wood fits right in with their style!
It's amazing how replacing carpet with hardwood can transform a space!
The finished living room gives a warm and inviting feel immediately when entering home.
Wes says that the floor is always the first thing that guests comment on when they enter the house. The individuality in color and distress markings on each plank really make this flooring stand out from the rest. It's easy to see why he loves the new floor so much!
