Granite counter top, too shiny!

I hate the ultra shine of our black granite counter tops. They show every single little touch. I recently heard of a suede finish on granite. Anyone (really) know how to get that look?

  • You will need the stone fabricator to do this for you. They using special tools will take the sheen down a few notches. It requires special tools and experience. Stone type also has something also to do with finishes available. Only the stone fabricator can tell you your options and help you out.
  • Yes, stones can be honed (flat polished, no shine) or leathered at the quarry or at the mill on a large table that sweeps across the slab. This does create a lot of dust. Removing the shine in your home will create a mess that you don't want and will not be uniform . You could have the top removed, transported to the mill and then re-installed, However, that is very expensive. From a cost perspective, it would be best to sell the stone you have in your house and buy new granite. Note: Darker colors tend to show more of everything
