Baby furniture grows up to be a liquor cabinet.
Once upon a time, this piece was my son's baby changing table. More recently it lived in my laundry room adorned with detergent and fabric softener drippings One day i looked at it and had saw something completely different: a bar cart.
I sanded it quite a bit because it had a laminate finish and i knew i wanted to paint it. I originally planned to keep the cabinet and the remaining drawer for pullout storage. But the drawer had a cardboard bottom so i knew it would not really be very useful. The first drawer's bottom i had already repurposed when i made my niece a bulletin board for Channukah.
I used wood putty to fill in the holes left behind by the hardware from the doors and drawers. The spot in front was from the magnet. I sanded the cabinet again, this time using a sanding block.
I painted it, but did not like the original color, so i mixed my own. I also decided to take off the cheap cardboard backing, but did not want it open in the back.
I replaced the backing with four Ikea shelves, painted them as well, and nailed them on the back of the cabinet.
This is the finished piece in my den. the bottom shelf is a mirrored tray also from Ikea. I love the "as is" section and especially the "handyman's" area. This was a supposed to be a door from a cabinet. It only cost me about $2.00! This was my biggest project to date. It was very time consuming, but well worth the effort. I love the way it turned out.
