Homemade Kitchen Island

Wayne Carpenter
by Wayne Carpenter
We had limited counter space in our large kitchen so the obvious decision was to build an island. I designed it to work with the existing layout - spice drawers near the stove, mixer lift near the sink - and the cookbook storage adds a design flair. Built from scratch, we have seating for 3 but have fit 5 around it.

Lots of counter space now!! Roll out your cookies and pie crusts!

No instructions or plans. I just measured what space we had in our large kitchen, thought of what my wife wanted and the layout of the kitchen. Then I sketched a rough design and built it!
