Cabinet question not sure what to do...

Bryan D
by Bryan D
I want to turn this box into a cabinet for a bathroom. I added the shelves, I am just not sure on a base for it. What would look the best? Only looking to add two feet to the height at max. Any ideas would be great.
This is what i ended up making with the box

Are you planning on hanging it on the wall? If so you could hand it as is and then add a floating shelf underneath as another shelf. This will also give it some visual height

If it is going to be resting on the floor, you could build or find another box the same size in the height you want and put one shelf in it. Great for larger bottles, cleaning supplies, toilet paper etc. You could also just get some legs from the Big Box Store and screw them on.

How about using some interesting bricks to bring it up to the height you want? It would be too heavy to hang on the wall.

Maybe using 4 wooden legs to raise it off the ground? You can get short ones.

You might check at a local flea market or trade show for a plant stand and incorporate the legs onto the base of the cabinet. Not sure of the space you are working with since no dimensions.

I'd get some bun feet for it.

I went to a second hand store and got a single night stand, and it had two drawers. A real plus. Hope this helped. R

I agree with the leg idea. And may be change out the door knob. If you want to give it a shabby chic look, spray paint it mirror silver with Crystal knobs and make sue the legs have some carvings to it. Spray paint as well. Or paint with cream color and do a distressed look to the wood work and paint a pretty French stencil on top. So many things you can do, just depends on the final look your looking for. Good luck!

Oh, I thought you had just added the shelves. To bad you dind't post a before picture as well. So basically you only need to add the legs to get the height you desire. Cool! :)

Put casters on it...they are about $4, or less...

Take a look at Houzz. They have a bathroom with similar cabinets (7 calming color palettes) houzz=http://www.houzz.com/photos/8562636/Master-Suite-Attic-transitional-bathroom-minneapolis]

2 ft off the floor sounds like a knee bumper to me - odd height. You didn't say what you plan on using it for, which could make a big difference. I can see muting it in the wall between studs as uch as you can to reduce the protrusion into the room. Take the door off, paint it and use it for rolled towels, washclothes, bath salts, couple extra TP rolls, etc.

That's OK Bryan. I noticed some typos in mine that may have caused confusion. "muting " was supposed to be "mounting"; "uch" was "such". Now that that's cleared up, I still think between studs in the wall as much as possible gives the bathroom more space. You could have a beveled edge mirror cut so your door wood "frames" it and mount it on the front if keeping the door helps hide the "ugly " bathroom stuff like toothpaste, assuming you have no other storage area for that. However, this is yet another reason to reduce its protrusion into the room taking up space (both floor space and visual). If you do have other storage put the ugly stuff there , then I still recommend removing the door and using it for storage as I previously suggested.

I would hang it on the wall. Much easier to clean the floor!

@Judy Capone Mantell i am going to an auction and i am hoping to pick up something, if not then i will probably build a base out of 2x4s and plywood

I added some suggestions, but don't know where they went. Anyway, look for some unusual hardware as well. I think the cabinet would look great decoupaged with some old maps to match the green walls. With some moldings you could end up with a work of art. you could go to any box store and get legs depending on the height you want.
