DIY Large Chalkboard

With a family of 6, having a single place for everyone to write down their appointments and activities is paramount. I knew I wanted something a bit larger to fit the wall above the wine cabinet in our kitchen, and I wanted it to be decorative as well, so I decided to custom build a chalkboard calendar.
I decided to make my calendar 4 x 3, but you can make yours any size you like.
I used a miter saw to cut the moulding for the frame, and attached the frame to the plywood using wood glue and nails. I then cut the small moulding for the calendar grid to size. I used wood glue to attach the vertical lines to the chalkboard surface.

Then I glued the horizontal lines on top of the vertical lines. Because the trim for the grid is only 1/4 thick and has a flat surface, the grid lines fit together nicely.

I found chalkboard decorative wooden tags at Michael's. I used a Sharpie paint marker to write the days of the week on them, then glued them to the frame.
