It looks as though it is in pretty good shape. Remove existing fabric, wood/wicker with a stain a little darker than what is on there and I would recover fabric section with something funky like a faux cowhide. Or if you are so inclined you could spray the wood/wicker a chocolate brown or a cream color and still do the faux cowhide.

I'd paint the chair an accent color that you are using in your home and recover the fabric areas with a small print that co-ordinates with what you are using in the room. You would still have to tuft but I would only do 3 or 4 buttons to make it a little less "stuffy" looking.

Saw a beautiful chair like this in shop. Wood was painted glossy black. Fabric recover was black background with large flowers in multi-colors. Gorgeous.

Guess it depends on your décor style and existing colour scheme. (As is, this would fit my traditional and traditionally decorated home down to the ground - sort of "stuffy" as Teri says! LOL.)

Hi Lori- what a great chair! If you don't have upholstery skills, and you want a simple solution, then you can either paint both the chair and the cushion with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Or, you can try painting the chair cushions with textile spray paint (available at Joanns) and either re-staining the wood part of the chair or painting it with a contrast color.

My chair is similar but vinyl - I spray painted it and you could do the same with the right paint! Have fun with it!

If this is was mine, I would spray paint the chair white and recover the cushions with a polka dot or check in black & white.

Lori, is your home traditional, country, contemporary or what? For a contemporary look, paint the chair a soft black. Find a fabric (that goes with your decor), and recover the cushions--You do not have to put the buttons back on. Just make the cushions a smooth surface.

Paint would fun it up. If it were mine I would paint the wood a fun color=aqua or coral, and add a funky floral or animal print fabric! Show us what you do with it. It's a great find.

@Lori Roberts, It depends on your style. Are you bright and funky, or traditional, laid back? Personally I would keep the natural wood, cause that's what I like. Then I'd find a fabric that goes with wherever I'm going to use it. Planning before hand is always the trick. You take a chair and paint it and cover it's cushions funky. Neat. Now where to put it? It might be perfect, but make sure it's perfect for you and your style around you in your comfort zone.

Hi Lori, I had a pair of cane chairs that I painted with CeCe Caldwell Chalk Paint then recovered the fabric in a toile fabric. You can see it here at www.redesigninaday.com Good Luck!

Oh, I forgot to mention that you can paint fabric with chalk paint. It's really fun!

i absolutely love your chair. If you want to give it a 'Shabby Chic' look; the paint in a bright white or pastel color on the wood. Depending on the condition of the fabric-I would either leave as is or remove and make new ones in soft color to compliment.
