Antique Press Back Chair Update With Java Gel Stain

I found this old chair at the thrift store a few years ago for $8. It had a broken cane seat but was otherwise in great condition. It sat for awhile but I recently pulled it out for a "themed furniture day" I am part of with a few other bloggers. The theme....CHAIR. Perfect! I didn't want to re-cane the seat so I made an upholstered one for it. I also didn't really want to paint the wood but it was blah and needed something so I used a bit of Java Gel Stain on it. Old made new again.
General Finishes Java Gel Stain made this chair look AMAZING! The wood grain is just popping out and beautiful now. The pale color of the "embroidered" looking fabric (from the $5/yard bin) and the dark stain look fabulous together.
The chair as I found it.
My husband removed the cane and created a support bar underneath plus cut a wood form for me to upholster.
I covered it in foam and batting, then fabric. See all the details over on the blog linked below.
