Creating a Mosaic Vase With Eggshells!

Susan Myers
by Susan Myers
I designed a mosaic vase made from egg shells! I like to call this the “poor man” mosaic technique.
I found my little glass vase at the dollar store. Apply a coat of white primer to the vase.
Begin by hard boiling the eggs and then coloring them using the instructions on the egg coloring kit. I colored mine in blues, purples and greens. To get the different shades, I left them in the coloring solution for different periods of time. Once the eggs are dry, carefully peel them. Set the shells aside for this project, and then use your hard boiled eggs for something awesome like deviled eggs!
Paint a bit of the Mod Podge in a small area and then add larger pieces of shells in place, pressing them down to form the shape of the vase.

Great project. Do you mod podge the outside of the vase to protect the shells once you have completed the project.

fabulous. Wondering how to shellac more bulbous pieces of shell on to a flat surface ... I have organic eggshells in exquisite palette of soft earthy pastels (smokey greens, light turquoise, toffee colored, etc.) Would love to use them as art, in bigger pieces ... Any thoughts on ways to gloss and adhere them ? Would do a small canvas mosaic (a la Julian Schnabel)

    Do you paint the vase?
