Handpainted Maritime Blueprint Dresser

When I found this old, seen-better-days dresser at a yard sale for $18, I knew it would be the perfect canvas for a fun makeover.
I have always loved the look of antique maritime blueprints, and I wanted to recreate one on a piece of furniture.
This dresser was the perfect candidate because it had a flat front.
I found an inspiration print and painted the dresser a deep indigo blue, a custom color I created by mixing two shades of chalk paint together.
Then I handpainted the blueprint design in chalk. Trust me, you don't have to be an artist to do this. You can see all the steps (plus my favorite way for transferring a design to furniture) on my blog.
I love how the dresser turned out. It is definitely one of a kind. This look is perfect for a beach cottage or a boy's room.
A plain $18 yard sale dresser that has seen better days.
The blue of antique maritime blueprints inspired this custom indigo chalk paint color.
I used this vintage maritime blueprint as inspiration for my handpainted dresser.
Transferring the blueprint design to the dresser.
Wouldn't this nautical dresser be perfect for a beach cottage or a little boy's room?
I love shopping yard sales and secondhand shops to find nautical decor, like this buoy and sailboat.
