Knocking Down a Wall to Expand Our Apartment Kitchen

We recently knocked down wall between our kitchen and a bedroom in order to create a mini-den off the kitchen (and to create, in general, a more open feel). The idea was to have a space where my kids can hang out with friends and where we could entertain better. We do a lot of weekend entertaining and we could never sit more than 12 people in our kitchen for a meal (we don't have a dining room- our apartment is about 1300 square feet- most of the space is bedrooms (there were 5 bedrooms, now 4); go figure... :)
Now, we can extend our table to fit 16 people. Were also going to be installing folding doors so that we can add a privacy dimension to the room and double up the room as a TV/Guest room. Wish my pictures came out nicer, but for now, I wanted to share as is. We also plan to redecorate the room with a new couch and bookcases.
My husband and my sons DIY'ed the demolition and we hired someone for the finishing. I am SO glad we did it! It's our first real project of any kind, and we pulled some of it off DIY.
