Vintage wrought iron table and chairs

I am working to restore a set of wrought iron table and chairs. I have succeeded in removing most of the paint but am having trouble removing all the paint from the "braided" parts. I have tried a steel brush, toothbrush and steel wool but there is still some paint left. Any other suggestions?

Hi Willie, The only way I have been able to remove the paint from the very smallest of areas is with a liquid paint remover. Most of these vintage sets were powder coated, which is a dry powder colorant attracted to the surface with electricy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powder_coating But getting it off is another whole set of problems. I have used several different brands of liquid paint remover. Most will work after a few attempts. It also can leave your metal with small pocks. Good luck. Please let us know how it comes out. sk
