Empty Closet Transformed Into Magical Playroom Hideaway

Once upon a time, there was a castle playroom under the stairs where children could travel far, far away and play happily ever after. See how we created it every step of the way on Kenarry: Ideas for the Home - http://www.kenarry.com/castle-playroom/
We wanted to create a magical hideaway where our boys could play for hours on end dressed as handsome princes and brave knights. We could envision them defending the castle from masked marauders, fearsome dragons and plundering pirates.
It all started with an empty unused closet under our basement stairs. It had blank white walls with a cold gray cement floor, but in my mind it was a magical forest full of friendly woodland animals leading the way to a medieval castle.
Slowly over the course of several weeks, we spent every spare moment we could downstairs painting, sewing and laying carpet.
Anyone can create a castle playroom, like this, if you have a little imagination and a spare closet. Full tutorials for each step of this closet transformation are available online at http://www.kenarry.com/tag/castle-playroom/
Tutorials include: How we painted woodland creatures leading the way to the castle.
The woodland mural includes a squirrel, a fawn, curious bunnies, a wide-eyed raccoon and more.
How we used carpet squares to differentiate between the castle floor and the woodland space.
How we sewed a curtain for the castle entrance with a working door and see-through window.
The entire castle facade is held up by a shower curtain rod.
How we made medieval shields - one to represent each of the boys' grandparents.
How we created special inspirational wall art.
And of course, how we added seating and toy storage for the castle.
It was our goal to create a magical hideaway for our boys where they could spend hours pretending to be knights, kings or other brave men on fantastic adventures. But let's be honest, by the time we were done creating the castle playroom, we wanted to dress up as royalty and live in that castle ourselves!
