by Vintage Headboards
We were contacted by this Customer who's son was relocating to Dallas and who wanted to do something nice for his first apartment away from home.
She asked that we make a headboard using old barn wood and rustic planks mixing in stained pieces of wood.
After we delivered and installed it the Customer added the light on top.
The headboard in our shop before loading it to go to the Customer in Dallas.

Thanks for your feedback Hannah. First you need to determine the size of bed that you'd like for the headboard to fit as well the total height. We used cabinet grade 3/4" plywood as the back. The legs and backing were first painted Onyx black prior to assembly of the headboard. Next we selected the widths of rustic planks that we wanted to use for the headboard. We selected the barn wood that we wanted to use as then used the rustic planks as guides to set up the table saw to cut the barn wood a similar width. After ripping the barn wood we then began the process of piecing it all together like a puzzle. We used Early American colored stain and poly for the rustic planks which needed to be pre-stained. The Customer confirmed the leg height that would work well for her prior to the assembly.

@Vintage Headboards Awesome! Sounds like a really cool project I love rustic planks used in decor. You should totally include your how-to in your future posts! I'm sure I'm not the only Hometalker wondering how you did this ;)

Good morning Anita - we started with using authentic barn wood that we cut to match the widths of the plank wood. We then stained the plank wood Early American. We then determined what size bed we were going to make it for then cut a 3/4" thick piece of plywood and attached the legs. Starting from the bottom we used random widths and lengths of the wood. We finished by buffing in a finishing wax to seal things.
