Grandparent's Table Refurbished With Love

When my parents had both passed away this old table that I grew up with was found in the dungeons of their basement. My youngest son was told to put it out to the curb and instead he took it home and did a miracle job of refinishing it for a surprise present for me on Mother's Day. I was in tears when I saw it. A keepsake I will always cherish.
How the table looked when my son started.
Unfortunatly, I only have before and after pictures. I know he took it all apart and stripped the paint off.
It looked better in the '50's in our kitchen!
The wood slats then had to be glued and clamped, then re-assembled. When it was all put together he stained it and finished it with Ureothane.
Finished product! I have my Mother-in-laws old fancy ashtray and one of my Mom's vases and doilies.
We have a small house and only use the table as an extra for family dinners. Everyone loves it and I will always appreciate the work and love that went into this project. Keeping memories.

My Grandmother's drop leaf table is just like this one. It was always our kitchen table no matter how many times we moved all through my childhood. It was also rescued... In 1971, I remember being upset about Mom loaning it to Daddy's cousin, Mary. Sure enough, she painted it with ugly green house paint she had on hand and put it on her back porch for a potting bench! When Mom died in 1976 and the little table was returned in horrible condition. My sister sadly stored it away. Many years later, my brother in law, who is a genius at woodworking took it upon himself to bring that little drop leaf table back to life. It is now a darker stain than I remember, but it is beautiful. My sister and her husband gave it to me for Christmas 10 years ago, and we use it for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and for parties. I think your son is wonderful for giving you that little table full of memories back.
