Dilemma! Dried wood stain

How do I get dried wood stain off wood? I reapplied the wood stain over what I had stained but want more to come off? Do I wait for it to dry and sand? Or strip? Any ideas?

If the wood doesn't have a finish on it you can usually use lacquer thinner on a cloth. Wet the cloth and rub it on the area with the dried wood stain. Lacquer thinner will remove excess stain and lighten the area without raising the grain of the wood. Lacquer thinner has always worked for me and I've had more than my share of wood staining disasters.
