What is the difference between chalk paint, mud paint, and milk paint?

    • @ ...and Nikki...:)....The difference between milk paint and chalk paint is the ' makeup ' of the ingredients. There is an article in a magazine , Milk paint has been around a very long time, its been used in the painting of furniture and for other purposes ...; here is short excerpt :The title: "Antique American Painted Furniture Reveals Our Ancestors' Craving for Color, Whimsey and Liveliness." says it all. Paint has been present for many thousands of centuries, according to www.milkpaint.com. "Paint has been used by mankind since before recorded history, first as decoration, and much later as a protective coating. The oldest painted surfaces on earth were colored with a form of milk paint. Cave drawings and paintings made 8,000 years ago, even as old as 20,000 years ago, were made with a simple composition of milk, lime, and earth pigments. When King Tutankhamen's tomb was opened in 1924, artifacts including models of boats, people, and furniture found inside the burial chamber had been painted with milk paint. Plaster of paris , OR sodium bicarbonate, sometimes lime . It is not so much that ' chalk ' is the ingr....edient , but rather the FINISH that it gives, which is why it is referred to as ' chalk paint'. :) I am not an ' expert ' on chalk paint, but am teaching myself and learning a lot about it, hope this helps you. :)
