@Douglas Hunt I think also maybe if you instigate the pollination it will probably help as well. Your over 85 degree temps make them lazy and not want to perform :)

We really like both Purple Cherokee and Mortgage Lifter. Both taste great and are good for canning and drying.

Sungold is a wonderful small tomato, great flavor, beautiful in salads, and bears in the hot deep south summers when larger tomatoes have quit.

Here in south Louisiana the best tomato is the locally grown Creole but they have a very short season in June, not really a variety as much as a local soil result.

Our favorite eating tomato is Cherokee purple without a doubt! I save seeds from the best ones for the next year.

A good eating and canning tomato is Marglobe. We buy all our seeds either from Baker's Creek or from Seed Savers. Heirloom seeds are the only type of seeds that you can save and have them grow true to type.

so the seed company sent a sample of something I have never grown before. Barese Cucumber. Which looks sort of like a cucumber, but is actually a melon that looks like a cucumber. Anyone ever grown it?

@360 Sod (Donna Dixson) No, never heard of that but I see that there is a "miniature watermelon" about 2 inches long that is actually a cucumber.....
  • I order from Johnny's, Seed Savers and High Mowing. My three favorite tomatoes are Moonglow, Green Zebra and Amish Paste. I've had great luck with growing red peppers with Carmen and Jimmy Nardello's.
