CuttIng glass bottles

Question

Does anyone have experience cutting various sizes of glass bottles? There are a couple of glass bottle cutting kits, but I cant tell if they would work with small bottles as well as regular sized (wine) bottles. I have some nice little bottles that I would like to cut and make shot glasses, votives, juice glasses, etc.

I do know that you truly get what you pay for when it comes to anything for cutting glass. This is one area you really don't want to try to be thrify in because you'll find yourself with much frustration, bottles that are ruined and a glass bottle cutter that you'll regret buying. YouTube is one of the very best places to find advice on cutting bottles plus their recommendations on bottle cutter brands. Usually, if you pay under $100 for a bottle cutter it's not going to be your better choice. So spend some time on YouTube before you go any further.

I found the best technique on youtube for cutting glass. I will tell you generally and then you can look for it. First you score the line with your glass cutter as you are boiling water in a teapot. Then you want to pour the boiled hot water over the score line at the same time you are running cold water over it in the sink. I was so frustrated until I found this video and tried it. It is not foolproof, but I have found more success with this method than any other. Wear your safety glasses though safety's sake. I have a laundry sink in the basement I do this in just in case of shattered glass, but that has not happened so far.
