Garden Orb Made From Metal Strapping

I had a round timber H4 treated pine fence post of 1.5metres in height left over from another project. What to do with it? I decided to buy some metal strapping and make a garden orb. I stained the post first with a weather proof stain and bought a 6m roll of metal strapping for about $6.50. I cut 4 x 1m lengths and using the existing holes in the strapping, I added a bolt to bring all the ends together. Where they cross each other I got my hubby to drill through the metal on all 4 straps which entailed ondoing it and measuring it out properly (something that in my impatience to complete a project I had not done) and to get the kinks out of the strapping as much as he could and make it as 'orb' shaped as possible! We screwed it to the top of the fence post and having used post hole diggers to make a 40 cm deep hole for the post, we dropped it into the hole and backfilled with the removed soil and firmed it in. Note - no concrete required as the post hole was not much bigger than the circumference of the post and not being structural or load bearing, putting the soil back into the hole was sufficient to hold the post straight. I then added a string of solar fairy lights that just happened to have star shaped lights. I bought these for $12 for a box of 3m long outdoor fairy lights. I think it looks rather like stars around a planet! Rather pleased with the end result. It will look even better when it lights up at night. The solar panel for the battery is on a peg sunk into the ground near the base of the post. Needs to be in full sun to recharge the battery for the lights.
