Making glass lanterns

Question

Does anyone know what the metal inserts that go in the lanterns are called? They hold the candles, but are attached the to lid of the jar some how. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I looked forever to find these things myself! They are called 'tea light holders' and 'suspended candle holder', and probably other things as well. JoAnn Fabrics sells a wire candle holder for around $3.00, but it is a bit bulky for me. ask your local high school ag department. one of the students should be able to make them for you as a welding project if you have a picture of what you want them to make.

It's called an oil lamp insert, and it's made with a reservoir for holding the oil.

I purchased ones that go around the outside of the top edge. If I recall correctly, they are called bails. Search for mason jar bails.

In the old lanters that we used in the barns, it was called a mantle.
