Liliana Wells

I call it an umbrella tree. But someone told me it is a weeping cherry tree. However, it does not flower or bear fruit. What is it's growing capability? Our local EMC company wants to cut it down and I want to keep it. It is the one above the bicycle in one picture and to he left of the bicycle in another. Thanks

Could be a fruitless mulberry tree. I'm sure it would be easier to identify once it gets leaves on it.

@Char Meier You are probably thinking of a Mimosa tree but Liliana says it does not bloom.

Do the leafs grow to the ground every season? If so it may be a fruitless weeping Mulberry. And you can trim it up in spring really short and if need be cut the branch off that is growing off to the side to get it back to a round shape. If it gets to long in summer you can trim the bottom up to where you want it.

@Liliana Wells Don,t be afraid to trim it short and all the branch,s that are growing up take them down to the main branch. Love these trees but need alot of trimming yearly .

ok that looks like two trees. the branch,s that are growing up in the air just cut them back to the main branch.

I can't identify the tree from just the shape but what reason are they giving you for wanting to cut it down? It's nowhere near the road. (Monkey puzzle tree is an evergreen and has very sharp triangular leaves.)

Glad you stood up to the EMC! It shouldn't grow much taller, so the EMC should leave you alone.

This almost looks like a Wisteria tree that has not been pruned/shaped. They sometimes do not flower if the soil doesn't have proper nutrients.

The man did say he was going to look into it. I am not holding my breath that he is going to do it. Thanks again.

Not having any leaves to help, I have two suggestions. One is a Mimosa, Albizia julibrissin, though it does have flowers in the summer. The other is a Chinaberry tree (Melia azedarach) which usually grows upright but also has a umbrella form which is sometimes called a Texas Umbrella tree (A. z. 'umbraculiformis'). Both are invasive. But without the leaves, I can be way off on this.
