Keeping mosquitos away

I have a lovely two year old set of deck furniture that has not been used yet because of the mosquito problem in my area (New Jersey, they are as big as a VW). I am highly attractive to them and can't sit out even with repellent all over me. Any ideas on how to keep them away?

Drink lime juice. Bugs hate lime juice. Use Avon Skin So Soft on your skin before going out. Make sure you so NOT have any puddles of standing water anywhere on your property. There are all natural mosquito repellent disks that can be places in water that help fight the insects.

Thank you Cecilia. Maybe that's why I have a problem repelling them. I hate citrus flavors. As for the other suggestions I will methodically try each and every one until something works.

Also put a fabric softener sheet in your pockets. I read in a magazine that is works. I am going to try it too!

Get some large containers and plant lemon grass in them and set them around by your furniture, they hate lemon grass.

Thank you Cindy and Love Digging. I will try your suggestions. I really wanted to sit on my pretty deck and enjoy the summer after all this snow and cold.

@John.dearden33 Thank you John. I have tried this and it doesn't work very well for me. I hope you are now home safe and sound in the loving arms of your family.

I love skin so soft and have used it for years. When gardening I do put dryer sheets in places where I can just tuck it in. I put one high and one low (my sock or shoe). It has worked, Now I am having my deck screened in so hopefully I can relax and enjoy without the need for armor every time I step out the door.

I found a great Blog Spot online that thoroughly goes over how to prevent and repel mosquitos. Go to http://wwwhibiscusandmore.blogspot.com/2009/07/mosquito-repellent-plants.html - You can copy and paste the address. It lists several varieties of herbs and flowers that mosquitos do not like: Lemon Grass, Lavender, Lemon Thyme, Lemon Balm, Basil,Catnip, Rosemary, Garlic, Marigolds, Ageratum, Citronella, Oregano, and Chives are just a few listed. I think there's 31 plants in all. What would be a great idea is to place containers with these plants all around your deck, and some in the yard leading up to your deck. The Avon Skin So Soft does work well, and I'll have to try the dryer sheet idea. Love this site! We can help others and learn some new tricks too. Good Luck!

Picarin by Avon works well. I like the wipes that I can just use wherever I need.
