The Micro Gardener - Anne on Mar 16, 2015@Pauline_bracnik The simple answer is bury them! The fine hairs on the stem are actually baby roots in waiting. By burying your tomato plants deep into the soil (leave a few leaves at the top to photosynthesize), you will have a much stronger root system. This in turn helps your plant develop into a stronger plant that can bear more fruit. Remember to add organic matter and minerals to your soil as they are heavy feeders.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Mar 16, 2015@Susan is correct. Put a gentle fan on them. It mimics what happens with trees in nature.Helpful Reply

Lois Martin on Mar 16, 2015Plants started indoors that get spindly (etiolated) need more light. Fans will help and when they are ready to transplant bury the stems either by laying them horizontally in the soil or deep enough (to the first leaves). They will root along the stem.Helpful Reply

Lisa on Mar 16, 2015do some of the above, and use wooden skewers, and panty hose snippets...the panty hose do not injure the young plants, gives a little support..lotta work and patience...so maybe the other suggestions would work for you better..but for a lot of vegies, plants this worked for me....do not tie tight just gentle loop....Helpful Reply
