Can a king size feather bed be altered to fit a double bed?

I have been given a beautiful king size feather bed but unfortunately my bed is only a double. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I can alter the king size to fit the double? I am a little apprehensive since there are feathers involved.

You can but it will be very messy. I tried to save feathers from a pillow and ended up looking like a chicken plucker - FEATHERS everywhere. Yes serging is a great idea, but hard to do with a pillow. And I pillow seemed so containable but it was NOT!

You can minimize the mess by basting along the line where you want to cut and then sewing two seams about an inch apart, then cutting between them. You'll need to bind the edge, maybe with blanket binding. If you have access to a serger that would be ideal.

@Nancy Wilson have you considered altering your double bed support to fit the king bed? Could box in the support to fit the king. If it is a standard box spring support you may have to support to the height of the box spring.

Thanks for the idea Margaret. I think I'm going to try that. Gail, I went to a double bed because the larger bed I had took up to much of the room. I'll try Margaret's idea and see if I can do it. Thanks
