what are you treating what is in your water there are many things too treat you have to find what is in the water first we use filter tech around here i dont know if they ship to nc or not but they are a great

Every 3 months. Try 3M Filtrete it filters the most VC's.

We use the 3Ms and they are great! The high allergen ones filter out everything. They are pricey, but worth the $$.
