Basement & Garage Construction & Additions Painting Walls & Ceilings

I am replacing the drywall ceiling on my carport because it has begun to sag and fall..

The house is over forty years old and I don't want to replace it with drywall. What could I use that is easier to work with and will still look good when finished?

As one customer remarked, 'Codes, Shmodes'. The problem here is we have so little code with enforcement. It's the wild west, here in the east. Almost every garage I have seen here in humid Atlanta, has interior drywall painted with interior paint in this exterior environment. It is almost guaranteed that in between 10-20 years the joint tape will start to crack along the edge, eventually coming lose altogether and falling out. Also, about this time the drywall sags in the middle ...»
forming a permanent belly. As a fix there is exterior drywall with exterior paint, or quarter inch plywood with lattice strips covering the joints (and paint).
