I have been debating painting my chandy red and putting it up in the living room..

Yamini LEED AP at Urbanmotifs on Sep 17, 2011Teresa, what do you mean by Chandy? I am assuming chandelier, right? If you incorporate some accents of the same color in the dining room, the color will flow and not stand out. Do you have a picture of the Chandy?Helpful Reply

Teresa M on Sep 17, 2011Yes :) I meant chandelier. Here is a picture of a chandelier that is very close to what I have but red already. My concern is if it will clash with the 6 light pendant light I have in the dining room. The picture I posted is looking from the living room into the dining room. The light at the top of the pic is where the chandelier will hang. I have a green accent wall(that used to be red, but it was too matchy matchy) I have a lot of red accents in the room.Helpful Reply

Terry Haas on Sep 17, 2011I think it may be a bit much with the chandelier but I do like the look you are going for. Use the red wall as your inspiration and see if you can bring in the couch to highlight. What about a fun stripe or pattern--in red for the throw pillows? The space is one room with several function spaces within--give them some consistancy and they will all come together.Helpful Reply

Teresa M on Sep 17, 2011Thanks for the input! I am really trying to find a way to put a more interesting light fixture in the living room since its a builder's grade light right now. But I love the dining room light and do not want to overpower that. I do like the idea of some fun throw pillows. The red wall is already green actually, so I need to find some green to add to the areas to bring them together. It's a work in progress as I try and figure out this decorating thingHelpful Reply

Virginia Peary on Sep 17, 2011Can tell if your thinking of painting the whole room or what? But I would only paint the one wall, the 1 behind the table, RED, (any color red with that light fixturewill work) And would look GREAT, but only as an accent color. Not a whole room. A whole red room would make the room look DARK and un-welcoming & make paople afread to come in. I have painted 1 wall in my geust room deep red & plan to paint a dragon in the middle, in black & gold. To make the room into a Japanese style, I will have photos of this room ready for the next home show...2012 ...lolHelpful Reply

Peggy H on Sep 17, 2011Why not put a matching light fixture to the one in the dining room? I like what you've done so far.Helpful Reply

Virginia Peary on Sep 17, 2011I just read the other posts....no I would not paint the chandler red...Leave it GOLD...Or spray it white, then if you change your mind later you can go back to gold or any other color I see that the other wall is red, that should be enough, as I said before too much red will be un-inviting. Red is too dermatic a color to have too much of! It's a good accent color only. I have been painting on canvus for years & know this for a fact. Good luck and have fun!Helpful Reply

WallsTreat Studio/ Kass Wilson on Sep 18, 2011Hi Teresa, I love your dining room fixture. It has sleek, rectilinear lines that are consistent with the rest of your furnishings in this space. I can certainly appreciate your concern about the new "chandy". It is quite a departure in style AND color from the one in the dining room. Some splashes of bright color and pattern would certainly add some personality. Try for an area rug, artwork on walls, decorative pillows or even a couple of interesting sculptures (pottery, candlesticks, etc). Wait until you have those items in place BEFORE painting an accent wall. The new red chandelier is certainly fun. Is there another room in your home where you may be able to incorporate it?Helpful Reply

Teresa M on Sep 18, 2011I love the look of a drum shade around a fixture. I may play with that some. I think from what I am hearing, that the red chandelier may be a bit much. So... off to add more accent in other areas. I def. need some throw pillows. More punches of color in other places. Thanks all!Helpful Reply
