Updating Vintage Frames

I love ornate antique pciture frames, but many times they need to be updated to show the print at it's best. I'm trying to get a few prints up in our new home, but it's been hard working with my limited wall space. I have several prints of Country French Farm Life from the 1800s and wanted to let them take center stage.
But they were dried out and dingy, and the frames did nothing for the beautiful antique prints. So I started layering paint in white, gray, and taupe.
Then after several layers I highlighted the details with metalic paste in antique golds. It's important to not let a lighter paint finish drown out the depth of the print. So you may have to stop and check it with the wall color and lighting of the room.
Then finish it with a light coat of satin liquid poly. Now the frames match my decor and have a fresh new look. Come by my blog, Common Ground for detalils www.commonground-do.com.
