Kitchen Cabinet Island Makeover

My mother was tossing out this vintage cabinet island when my father rebuilt her whole new kitchen.
I snagged it up to make it old French Country for my kitchen!
My brother made the plank top and I kept it as it was. It had the rustic warmth and charm that I wanted.
The base needed some sanding and some fresh paint.
I chose a buttery color: Creme Brulee.
Then using dark brown wax to antique the entire piece, I applied it heavily while rubbing it in.
It needed something on the doors, so using these Fleur de lis wood appliques was the perfect choice.
I was lucky to get the same French style hardware to go with the rest of the iron accents of the kitchen.
Wanting cornices but space was very limited, I scored these carved looking knobs in clearance. One was a bit small, so I doubled them up.
I also used dollar store paper napkins to decoupage onto the inside and outside of the drawers.
This votive candle holder made a perfect towel rack on the island. I just drilled holes to mount it.
And after a couple of weeks of making up my mind and getting the right pieces, the island was done!

    Gorgeous! Love the drawer linings.

    • @Hannah V Isn't it great that one package of paper napkins for one dollar made a difference and covered all of the drawers?!? So happy you like them. Thank you, Hanna!

WOW........this is beautiful! I love everything you did to it, and I am usually very picky/nit picky. I would have never thought of using the candleholder as a towel rack......that turned out amazing! Thank you for sharing, and motivating me to look outside the box, and try something new!

    • @Susan Warren Before tossing anything or donating it, I do stop to think about what I can do with it. Because this was iron and I don't use it I considered welding it for another use on something. This was a better idea. I hope you have tons of fun coming up with ideas and share your projects with us! Thanks so much, Susan!
