UPDATE: HAVE A MASONRY FIREPLACE, NO DAMPER, FLUE SEEMS OK ;2 STORY ; HAVE SOME LEAKS AT FOUNDATION IN BASEMENT; DAMPER

MAY BE THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER NEED PROFESSIONAL TO INSPECT AND REPAIR, 1964 HOME, JUST PURCHACED,

    it was hard to take pics with my phone ,,,but if you notice at chimney the (punches ) thru roof ,,i cut flasing into the brick,,and bent metal to go in to the cuts with disk grinder and rolled lead,,small lead sheet pieces and pounded in,,then repointed ,,,,putting and cutting flashing into brick ,,is the old school way,,this stopped this particular leak ,,which sounds like your problem,,,keepus posted,,,have more spec,s check out these
