Interesting.....hmmm wonder what the thought here was? How about a sliding barn door to close it off. Store vacuum/broom/mops in there. Add some shelves for extra storage.

Wow- what a perfect storage bin area! You could hang some pull out shelving (you can get those at Home Depot) and create a pantry. Or Ikea makes all those Billy bookcase systems that you can get with and without doors. You could hang the door then chalkboard paint it to give you a storage area plus a place for your grocery lists! http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00263850/

i like the storage big or pull out shelving, if it was mine i would put in shelves and maybe a door on the bottom to hid cleaning supplies or what not

I would make about three narrow upright shelving units to slid in the space with casters so you get use of alllll that space; perhaps two units for can goods/spices (need board or dowel a few inches up from shelf to keep everybody where they belong when you move) and one with pegboard back to hang you broom and the like..picture tall skinny units..I hang my blender items, measuring cups and the like on a piece of framed pegboard ...works great...since the space is so tall you probably need to place boards on the ceiling to create a "track" to prevent tipping...maybe a safety chain on the back to the wall so a child can't pull completely out and not be able to prevent it from going over if full/floor not 100% level type thing....just brain storming...you could store a LOT of can goods in that space..have you seen the one people have make to slid in next to a fridge? I would install "floating" shelving and you can put doors on the front if you want to store stuff you don't want people to see! I would kill for that space! Hope you post what you eventually do with it, i'd love to see it!

I would put the thick wood floating shelves in and just style them - and maybe use some for bigger appliances, (like a kitchenaid mixer), but I would not add a door.

Pull ot laundry fold and iron station if you have the woodworking skills. Shelving with storage bins for veggies or a recyclr center for more basic skills. I think pull out workspace that can be tucked away would make use of the depth. Look for a table or night stand you can put on casters...lots of possibilities! Computer nook. Homework station, Etc.
