Why won't microwave above stove work?

I put a coffee cup in, turned on the microwave and heard a big 'SNAP'. The light goes on, makes fan noise, but the turntable won't turn AND it won't heat. I bought new bulbs for the lights underneath and they don't work. What to do? We are going to be putting house up for sale and this needs to work.

This happened to me...not worth fixing. Buy a new one they don't cost much these days.

Try unplugging and wait a few minutes and then plug in again.

No plug available to get at. It was here when we moved in 7 yrs ago. Really 'built-in'!

I agree with Terry, if it's 7 years old and is acting up, I'd invest ina new one. They're cheap today, you can get one around $50.00 and be sure it's made known that it's new to any new buyer.

To begin with I wouldn't have a Microwave over a stove but that's to each his own . If it won't heat and the turntable won't turn but the light comes on it's time for a new one . Get a good one if you use one like we do or if you just use it a little go inexpensive . I hate the word cheap when it comes to consumer goods because if you buy cheap that's just what you get . Good luck !!!

I tried & tried to have out biscuit colored MW fixed, as I dreaded the next step -- replacing all my appliances for SS, as the ivory colored appliances are not well stocked (too old fashioned, I am told). We looked up possible fixes on the internet, as no repairman I contacted, will fix MW's. There is a real danger in messing with the electrical parts of your MW, as they store electric. Some internet places we looked at, said that you can get shocked, up to 1/2 hour after unplugging the appliance. Wait for a good sale, and get a new one -- maybe with a better warranty. They actually do not have a long life expectancy, so do the research.

Ours burnt out about 2 months ago. I put something in it and I heard a noise went back and it wouldn't do anything. We got another one at Lowes for 168.00 over the stove one. It was actually much cheaper than I could find on line and works great.

Sounds like the magnetron is burnt out. No fix for that. You will probably just have to buy a new one.

I totally agree with Mary. I have a micro that's about 12 yo now, and mine did the same thing one day, the sides come off after undoing the screws and there is a small simple fuse which I found at the hardware store for 3 bucks! That was 5 yrs ago and she's still going strong. I look for the fuse in yours especially since your selling the house.
