Hey everyone, I would love to have a brand new kitchen but since we need to change all the windows first... I am wondering, what would you do with our kitchen? It was like this when we first bought the house :)Every idea's welcome :)

If you have no idea how you want the kitchen laid out, call several contractors for opinions and ideas, sort them out and pick the one that suits your family best. ........i changed my windows at the same time. Also, pick up some kitchen books at home depot and go through them to get great ideas..Don't rush and don't let anyone rush you. Good Luck..

Since the major color scheme is black/white/gray, I would keep that going. Changing out the cabinet pulls and handles to black and painting the walls a light gray would pull things together. You can get inexpensive cabinet hardware from ATGstores.com. They will send you samples so you can try them out before purchasing. You have to pay for the samples, but once you order the handles/pulls you like, they will credit you up to $50 for the samples. Add a pop of color, such as red, in accessories (vase of poppies, towels, etc.) You should be able to do all for less than $100. Good luck!

Changing the hardware and the wall color will give you a quick fix, until you decide on a major renovation. Good luck.

I agree with Liliana. That would be a good start and go bold with the color. Also go to HGTV.com or BHG.com and check out their kitchen designs. Have fun!

I would use paintable wall paper for your back splash.. that way you can customize however you choose and it is not that expensive!

I would change the paint color to something more neutral, replace the curtains, & add a pop of color with accessories. Maybe change out the hardware on the cabinets if that's feasible at this time. Have fun!

I also like Pat's idea, of great on the walls and a pop of color.. I have a black and white Bedroom and used Yellow as my accent color. You could also do a nice faux backsplash!

Like this kitchen and the current colours. Very efficient work triangle. The only thing that might bother me is no counter space to right of stove. You could change the paint colour, replace curtains with mini-slat blinds, and replace the hardware. To save thousands, and forget a major reno, you could add trim to the cabinet doors to give an entirely new look..

For an in between projects pick me up I think I would paint the backsplash in a nice light grey...I see you have white and grey going on and I think the dark color there now breaks the flow. I think it would fee bigger with a lighter color the blends to allow the eye to see it all in one swoop without being stopped. Look like you have a nice large space; maybe you could make an island work space for the middle area with a few cabinets and an inexpensive Ikea white top (super cheap) and then add some art/color with your kitchen items for personality. Just my thoughts for a cheap now change the would have alot of impact until you can really do whatever it is you want after the windows are paid for : )

Have you considered an island of some kind? Nothing large. Perhaps something in stainless from a commercial kitchen? The reflective quality of the stainless would brighten the kitchen. You would have additional workspace and a place to display a bowl of fruit for a pop of color. Then get tin ceiling tiles and cut them to fit for a quick, inexpensive backsplash that would add some more light. Finishing touch, new brushed nickel cabinet hardware. P.S. I like your wall color...leave it as it is! Oh yeah, git rid of the curtains in favor of something more sleek as suggested by @Marion Nesbitt

I think your kitchen is quite nice and workable and, since you don't know what you want at this point, I wouldn't do anything big. I'd concentrate on doing the windows which is probably going to be an expensive project. In the kitchen, I'd take the great practical advice given above. I like the black & white & grey scheme as well; just be sure, if you go with a pale grey for the walls, that the undertone works with the grey floors. You don't want a pale grey with green undertones if your floor tile has blue or purple undertones or vice versa. And I'd paint the entire kitchen rather than just the backsplash because otherwise you have black & white & grey (or other color) & rust, and that's too busy. The lack of space to the right of the stove bothers me too and I think the idea of some kind of rolling island would be great - stainless steel, especially if you go with a bolder color on the walls/backsplash or something in a color you like if you go with pale grey walls. If you go with a colored island, use that color for accents elsewhere and be sure to bring in some greenery. It looks as though a small island could easily hang around in the middle of the room and you could roll it wherever you needed it when working, i.e. to the right of the stove when cooking; closer to the fridge when stocking or removing several items for a project. It's a charming kitchen and I think you can easily and cheaply "dress it up" and enjoy it for quite some time while you pay off the windows and develop your kitchen inspiration folder.

When you are dealing with a space that has so much white, that rust color that is currently on the back wall as well as your back splash can become your signature color, to set the mood of the room, I don't believe in following trends because we don't live in them we live in homes. So I would paint the back splash what ever your favorite color is, be it yellow green or grey, then I would change the drawer pulls and handles to match that color, with complimentary accessories you can have a brand new kitchen before you change the windows. Have fun, your kitchen has good bones, just get a little personal sparkle in there and as always have fun and welcome home !

You can use contact paper to cover the front of your fridge and give it a light clear coat to protect it...a fun cheap update. Use cheap framed pictures as a backsplash, use one color for all frames, or use 2 or 3 colors you like, vary the sizes and shapes...you could print all the pictures in black and white, or mix in a few old handwritten recipes in the frames. Buy cheap cabinet knobs and customize them with stones, hand painted designs, the options are endless! Add trim pieces to frame the middle of the cabinet doors to add depth or stencil a medallion design on the existing doors.

White kitchens are the most popular. I'd change out the countertops -- something lighter -- and the cabinet door hardware. But I'd keep it white. Here's some info on white kitchens. www.houselogic.com/home-advice/kitchens/why-white-kitchens-stand-test-time/?pred_search_link_clicked=Why+White+Kitchens+Stand+the+Test+of+Time?eo_sm_sa_lkg
