Sideboard Makeover W/Java Gel and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

This old sideboard/chest cabinet had a pretty rough stain job. I didn't feel too bad about painting over it because it was not in great shape. (and didn't look good!) I did lightly sand the top, however, and added Java Gel along with a top coat. I wanted to keep a bit of the "wood" look on the piece.
The original knob was replaced before it came to me so I put something pretty there instead. (and something that looked a bit more age appropriate)

The stain finish was not good at all on this piece. (you can see many more photos and angles of this before over on the blog post linked below)
I decided to keep it crisp with Pure White Chalk Paint and that nice dark top for contrast. I painted the inside Aubusson Blue. See the link below for more photos and details!

Hi there! What's Java Gel? I am planning on painting my dressers with Annie Sloan and I was told to use a wax coating as protective top coat. Thanks for the info!

@Tanya EJ Java Gel is a type of stain product by General Finishes. It's what I used on the top. The area that is Chalk Painted got clear wax. :)
