Transition from house to patio

Our deck was not a quality job and we receive western sun from 4 pm on and feel like we are on stage. We would like to rip it out and put in a paver patio not sure how to transition from French doors down to patio. We don't just want 3 narrow stairs, but would like some style. Any suggestions?

Maybe top step could run the length of new patio to be used as a ledge for drinks, plants, seating bench. Then the next 2 could be shorter runs about 4'-6' (or as wide as the doors) to make a grander wide stair entry. Planters/garden statues flanking the doors would be even nicer on wide stairs.

@Colleen sounds like a challenging project. If you posted pics of the area you might get more fruitful suggestions. I like the idea of transition stairs - I prefer mine to be closed in for a more finished look. The top step could go the length of the patio as suggested above and could be wider to accommodate a couple of chairs and a low patio accent chair - perfect place to sit for an evening glass of wine. If you have strong sun in the afternoon you could also incorporate a gazebo, they have permanent structures now as well as less expensive ones that need to be taken down in the winter.
