Making a headboard

Has anyone ever upholstered a spindled headboard. I love the look of the upholstered headboard and I thought I could use my old headboard as the base. Does anyone think this could work? Any suggestions.

Why not? Just put batting and fabric over it.

I'm no expect, but wouldn't you need to "block" in the frame with plywood prior to covering with batting? Good luck!

I seen a tutorial where they suggested using peg board for the backing of padded headboards. Might consider that instead of plywood to "block" as suggested by Melissa. That way you don't have to drill holes for the button tucks. Good Luck, can't wait to see it!~

The weight of plywood is too much. Go to home depot, get 24x48 inch ceiling tiles and using a strong tape cover the headboard and then put a small amount of batting over that then cover it. The ceiling tiles will accept screw in upholstery tacks if you want to tuff the surface. I only do the side toward your head and that way the staples will hold the material on the back.

You could also use foam core board available at most dollar stores (near the poster board) or Joann. It is lightweight and can be cut easily to fit where needed. Then, as Eli suggested, put a layer of batting then the fabric.
