Any more beautiful useful makeovers for sewing tables?

I have had this table for years. Each new machine I got, my husband would work it in, but now with the free arm, a solution just eludes us. Any ideas on how, or another use? I think the table is from the 1950's. Beautiful blond finish that wouldn't take much to go back to. Thank you.

It would make a good nightstand for a young woman or teenage girl. They could hang jewellery on the inside of the door. Perhaps add some mesh so earrings could be hung or some rods to hang necklaces and bracelets from. A little mirror hung on the wall over it and they have a small dressing table. The top could hold makeup and nail polish and such? Of course there needs to be sufficient space to open the swing door and top so the table part would need to be closest to the bed. I have also seen these converted to cool boxes for holding ice and drinks in the top. Could also make a small table for using a laptop computer on. I am sure there must be many other uses.

Interesting about conversion to a 'cooling box' for drinks. The lid could be for bottles and put it on an out door patio. Thinking... Thank you @Carole

Why not add a piece of wood, cut to the size of the opening, and drop it into hole? I am sure you would be able to support the wood by cutting a full sized piece and screwing it from the bottom. You could then continue to use it as a table for your sewing machine. I think it is beautiful.

@ @Valerie I approached Hubby about this one. He has debated a few days and can't come up with a way to do it to have it flat and supported. The wire is attached and the wood has so many degrees of thickness. UGH! However, he found a way to put a top on a desk I am using so I have more storage drawers as well as the table top that I want. Thanks for your idea!

Some people have made these into mirrored dressers as well.

I don't drink, but how about a small bar. Get some stainless steel drop in like they use in salad bars. One for ice and a couple smaller for relishes. I'm sure you'd have to do some adding of a frame. Build a couple shelves down lover, have one of them lower that the door so it is exposed when to the door is shut. Use that one for glasses, Make sure to make the shelf above tall enough for liquor bottles. Put some small wirer racks on the swing door. Customize to hold tools and garnishes maybe a few wine glasses. Make sure the shelf for the bottles is narrow enough so when you close the door there is room for the stuff on the swing door. Put something on the top of the flip down table part (where material used to go) that would look good and act as a coaster for wet stuff. You could also put some chips and dips on this part. You could also do the same thing only make it an ice cream sunday station???

@Naughtoncindy Great idea but I would want my enclosed patio done first and it's not even in the planning stages. Thanks for the neat idea.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will talk with hubby. Bar set up or cooler sound good for patio parties. I don't have room for a table inside unless I get rid of desk I have for sewing machine now. Will measure to see though as the fill-in board sounds great. Happy Easter /Happy Hanukkah to all.

@Lea Grossman To bad you are in NY, a looong way from AZ.. I have carried the table for 40 years so many I can see if it's a wanted antique since we won't deliver. I was in upstate NY for my 50th HS reunion last summer. :)

Hi Muriel, it's been a while since you posted this but I have to ask is the sewing cabinet still intact? My mother (1925-1995) had one exactly like it! I nearly cried when I saw your pics of it.

Did you have any way that you can make connections to get it to you? Sorry I didn't see this sooner.

Muriel, I found a pic in an old photo album I have, taken in the late 50s - there's the cabinet in the background. Identical! :-)

Not yet Muriel, but due here any day now. Don't worry yourself about that! It's the very one I want and I'll be refinishing it soon and installing a sewing machine in it too, just like Mom's. I'm so grateful to you. :-)
