Space ideas

This sort of hutch is in our dining area. I'm wondering what to do with this space? I was using it as a bar (hence lots of bottles and the margarita maker on the bottom). Wondering if I should use it as a coffee station? Or something else? I have china on the wall to the right of this. Advice?

Not sure what all the wires are for. I would run these behind whatever is on the lower cubby to tidy up the area. They also look a bit hazardous. Once that space is tidied up, I would add a glass shelf to display/store more glassware/cups, etc. and add doors to cover the lower cubbies and perhaps some glass doors on the 2 cubbies on either side of your centre area. Can't see what is on top of the unit, but looks a bit crowded with small items. It would be a nice place to display some of your deco plates or such instead.

I have seen a hutch just as yours repurposed into a library. You can add another shelf through the middle and paint it to update it. You can also use it for additional storage of dishes. I would look on the pottery barn website for inspiration so you can figure out your configuration and colors you would like to use. Good luck and happy repurposing.

Do you still want to use it as a bar? I would paint it all white and put either a nice artwork or mirror in front of the wires to cover it up and to add some fun to that area. I would also declutter the hutch and turn it into a library. http://christinetse.com/ http://bit.ly/SuperSecret10MinuteDreamHomeMakeover

I don't think there is anything wrong with a bar,Even if you are not a drinker, it still offers a unique display area for attractive glass, or collectables. The unit itself is a bit chunky the brown color reminds me of chocolate like actual chocolate. I don't know the color scheme of this dining room but I would get some attractive trim to enhance the blocky appearance, I would even consider some glass shelving in the center sections,a mirrored back, some crystal ware to add some sparkle a gloss or semigloss paint. Hide the wiring. and consider cabinet doors on the lower portion . More photographs wold be helpful to give you better ideas. Good luck and have fun!

I Agree with Christine. This could be an Amazing piece. De-Clutter, Repaint, and add some art work in middle. Good Luck ! Show us the results

I have a friend that repurposed a hutch into a wonderful headboard for her child's bed.

Since a dining room I would turn it back into a hutch.....that being said...I would gut out the top 2/3 portion and re trim with more attractive molding, something that goes with style of the house. Use the wiring, if it is good for lighting, for recessed cabinet lights. Decide if cabinet should have glass shelves or wood....again style of house then at bottom, doors. If no doors make sure room trim moulding wraps around the top( if not giving a ornate top) and bottom

    1. need to know what color the room is( the walls, furniture) 2. need to know if you want to keep it for drinks or coffee, or if that isn't useful, I'd put art, knicknacks( picture frames, avase, candlesticks, and books in the cubbies find out what the wires are for and have an electrician put them behind the cubbies/walls if that's possible, then repaint in more interesting colors, and/or put wallpaper/contact paper on the backs of the cubbies. Please post a photo when you finish!
