I'm wondering about the future resell effect and even if the idea is logical.

@Johnny Hooker it will all depend on your area and what is selling as well as the market buyers. Most people want at least two bedrooms, so they have a place for guests to stay or to use as a home office. Your best bet would be to consult with a Realtor for your area to see what is selling, then consider how soon you may sell. I am thinking of taking one of our 4 bedrooms and making it part of the main bathroom but not convinced yet, but I have a realtor friend whom I will consult before we do it. Let us know what you find out.

More bedrooms = more money. Simple as that. Check with a local realtor for your specific area. But if you're going to live there a good long while, I say do what you want.

Hi Johnny! There are a lot of variables here! How many bedrooms in the house? What is your overall square footage? Enlarging could be a great idea in the right situation. Obviously there are people who would like more bedrooms but then people do scale down. So a lot depends on the area in which you live. If you have two GREAT bedrooms it would be preferable to those who don't need three. Then three may not work as well if space is an issue. The needs of buyers are what move the market, however if you will be staying in the home for a long time to come, I say do what it is you feel comfortable with and enjoy the stretched space! Happy to help if you want more detail.

If you have 3 bedrooms in the end I'd say go for it!

Thanks to this site I've got three contractors coming tomorrow. As to the suggestions I will still have three bedrooms, the one I'm thinking of turning into a large closet I currently use as my computer room. I've lived here for 30 years and it's just my husband and myself. I'd still have two bedrooms for guests. One will become my computer room/office with a sleeper sofa.
