Tile kitchen countertop

I recently bought a home that has a white tile (3x3) counter with a terra cotta tile border. The condition is ok but I really don't want tile in the kitchen. Does anyone have any suggestions that won't cost a lot to get a flat surface counter (I know I may be asking for the impossible)? Thank you!!

You could try that concrete coating.

@Lorry V are you willing to remove the tile? If so I would recommend you remove it - if you add to the top of it, it will increase the height which may have an effect on the comfort of working at the counter. The concrete suggestion is a good one and could look quite good. There are numerous posts on here about making - I did a search and this is what I found http://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=concrete%20counters You could also look into the facelifts placing on top of the counter - again height would be a good question to ask of the professionals. Let us know what you do.

@Gail Salminen Thank you so very much for the great thoughts and suggestions. I very much appreciate the additional information. I will keep you posted and have scheduled someone to come over...lol, while all the while reminding him cost is a huge factor after all the recent closing costs and down payment! Thank you, again!!

I had a tile counter in my kitchen when I bought the house and I hated it. Took it out and replaced it with a laminate. Much better, still in progress, but better!

I found the best prices at Lowes, and best selection online. I went to both brands websites to view selections first.
