There seems to be a plethora of old sewing cabinets in the thrift shop market. But there are so (or should I say "sew"?) many ways to re-purpose the cabinets! For this cabinet I chose to make it into a cottage style side table.
The cabinet itself was structurally sound but the finish on the top was in bad shape. The hinges worked but not too well.
The patent dates on the sewing machine ranged from 1902 to 1916.
My purchase also included a box of the sewing attachments. . .
And a darling little oil can!
I chose a color scheme of Versailles (a light green) and Old White. I also included hints of Antoinette Pink.
The top is now fixed and no longer opens, but the front of the cabinet opens and includes two storage cubbies.
The inside of the cubbies are painted in Antoinette Pink.
There are subtle hints of Pink on the rosettes on the front of the cabinet.
The original craftsmanship and construction of the cabinet is just beautiful. I hope its new purpose will last for many years to come.
