1. How far from the retaining wall should I plant the fig tree or does it matter?
2. I am back filling the retaining wall with field dirt that is red clay. Should I amend the soil for the fig tree?
3. I hope to have a flower/vegatable garden going about 6 feet along wall. Should I put in a foot of top soil in that area or can I just add composted horse manure? Bill in Williamson, GA
Figs will do a lot better in amended soil than id red clay
I've made garden beds both ways. Bagged topsoil is not sufficient...have screened (or enriched) topsoil delivered. Otherwise thoroughly mix a 2" layer of manure with a 2" layer of river sand to a depth of 8" in the clay.
