Plants that repel sand gnats

Does anyone have any luck with certain plants that repel sand gnats?... I'm new to north east Florida and we get them awful in the spring/summer, we spend most of our time in our back patio and are constantly fighting these... Help please, thanks!!

Don't know of any plants that do it. There are numerous yard repellants that you can purchase. For all natural you can use to reduce populations of gnats by putting out a bowl of vinegar and add a few drops of dish soap. The gnats will be attracted to the vinegar but will be trapped by the soap.

  @Marianne Be sure to use apple cider vinegar! A friend of mine couldn't figure out why hers wasn't working and then saw mine and asked why it wasn't clear! She'd used white vinegar. It didn't work.

  @Marianne I remember sand gnats from living in Florida and sure am glad we don't have them around where I am in Texas! We have been having a major problem with fruit flies though. I tried the acv in a small bowl on the cabinet and they just looked at it. I started putting a little beer in a bowl though and they do like that. Still have a few but the population has noticeably diminished! If only the flies liked it!

See if you can find a citronella plant. Not sure if it will work but they have pretty foliage and are easy to propagate. Just break a piece off, stick it in the dirt, keep it moist until it gets established then water regularly.

You might also contact your County Extension Office. Here in Texas, our office is staffed with people who know about what plants will grow in your area and different planting methods. They might have information on natural pest repellent plants. Here's a list for Florida. Hope this helps.
